Character Assessment

Following the character assessment consultation on the seven areas within the built up area of the settlement boundary of Thurston, copies of the summary of the key detracting features along with the revised Character Assessment following comments received are available to download at the bottom of this page.

A key part of any character assessment preparation process is the identification and recording of the key characteristics of particular areas. To ensure that the document was produced in an objective and structured manner, reference was made to Planning Aid England's Guide to "Character Assessment - pro forma notes Putting the pieces together" which covered

  • what a character assessment is
  • the benefits of completing a character assessment
  • how to complete a character assessment
  • how to use the character assessment within your neighbourhood plan.

  • Parish Council Offices, New Green Centre
  • Thurston Community Library on Norton Road
  • Thurst Café in the New Green Centre
  • Thurston Butchers on School Road
  • Fox and Hounds Public House on Barton Road

All were encouraged to read the document and answer the 2 questions:

1. Are the Character Assessments correct? YES or NO

2. If they are not correct, what is wrong?
