Community Action for THurston Station (CATS)

To find out more about Community Action for Thurston Staton (CATS) please see below.

CATS is a recently formed group of local volunteers who are concerned about the poor state of the Thurston Station Building.

The Railway Station Buidling is a Grade 2 Listed building that has been vacant for many years since the last tenants - a printing company - moved out.

It is owned by Network Rail but is managed by Greater Anglia. They would like it to be tenanted again, but it needs some refurbishment work before this is likely to happen.

CATS is in contact with all the organisations involved with the station, and also with our local MP, our Parish & District Councils, and charitable funding trusts.

The building has lots of space, a good roof and is watertight, but it’s very shabby.

The site needs tidying and the inside needs extensive improvement.

We wanted to let you know about CATS and to ask you …. What do you think the station should be used for?

Suggestions so far have been:

  • a microbrewery
  • a bicycle rental and shop
  • a community space
  • a clinic room
  • a Men’s Shed
  • a hot desk provision
  • a cafe
  • flats

Please keep in mind that nothing happens quickly with this type of project. It can take a very long time, but we need to start lobbying now before the building becomes derelict.

Please do get in touch with your ideas …. and if you are one of Greater Anglia’s Station Adopters for Thurston we would love to hear from you.
