BEFRIENDERS NEEDED IN BURY ST EDMUNDS & SURROUNDING VILLAGES

With winter upon us the Voluntary Network are receiving lots of referrals for their befriending service which supports people over the age of 60 who are isolated and in need of companionship.

This is a particularly difficult time of year for those in our community who struggle to get out, the adverse weather and shorter daylight hours mean leaving the house can become virtually impossible for a lot of the people we support.

They currently have several people waiting in Bury St Edmunds and in surrounding villages so are in real need for more Face to Face Befriending Volunteers.

The befriending involves visiting someone roughly once a week for a cup of tea and a chat. In return you get to build a new friendship and learn about someone’s life experience.

It makes a huge difference to people and benefits the lives of all involved.

We have so much in common and get on so well, I couldn’t wish for better, her visits really brighten up my week.’ (Josie, Befriending Client)

‘I love my visits to Betsy, we always have lots to talk about and often have a good giggle. It is something that I really look forward to as well.’ (Ally, Befriending Volunteer)

If you think you can help or would like to find out more please contact their Befriending Coordinator Laura on 01638 608048 or laura@thevoluntarynetwork.org.
