There will be a Planning Committee Meeting of Thurston Parish Council on Wednesday 17 July 2019 commencing at 8.00pm in Thurston Community Library, Norton Road, Thurston IP31 3PB.
Local councils such as Town and Parish Councils do not have a statutory responsibility for services such as planning. The responsibility for the discharge of this function in the majority of cases rests with District and Borough Councils as the Local Authority and for Thurston this is Mid Suffolk District Council.
Thurston Parish Council and its role in the planning function
Under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Schedule 1, paragraph 8, the Parish Council has the power to be notified of planning applications affecting the council's area and to comment upon each application that affects its administrative area. Applications that come before the Parish Council are considered by the Thurston Planning Committee who have the delegated function of considering the applications and submitting a comment to Mid Suffolk District Council, the Local Planning Authority.
